It is with great sadness that all in Cappataggle Hurling Club and the wider community learned of the untimelypassing of Joe Duane following a long illness borne with great bravery and dignity.

 

Joe is our club president and a former chairman. He always led with great vision and humanity during his tenure as chairman. Joe was a kind and caring man and always made time for people, especially for more senior club members, former officers and players and was always quick to acknowledge their contribution to our club over theyears.

 

Joe also played for the club with distinction fromunderage and continued playing into his 40’s. His enthusiasm for the game and vision for the future was infectious, as was his pleasant demeanour. Although you would know you were in a game if you marked Joe for an hour!!

 

Joe also had a great interest in genealogy and had built up a fantastic knowledge of family histories and relationships in the area. He could converse in detailabout parish heritage and lineages.

 

Joe epitomised everything that is good about family and community life. He was one of our great club stalwartsand will be sadly missed.

 

We extend the sincerest sympathies of all in the club community to Joe’s wife Mary, son’s James, Michael and Francis, Joe’s brothers and sister and his extended family and wide circle of friends at this desperately sad time.
