It was a close encounter for much of the game with little seperating the teams. Cappataggle opened the scoring with a point from corner forward Emmett Malone. Cappy’s defence seemed to be under pressure from the off with Kilnadeema Leitrim keeping their forwards in good supply of ball but in fairness to the Cappy defence they dealt with the pressure very well with Cathal Maloney, Alan Loughnane and Kevin Kelly to the fore.
During the first half Cappy sent over some fine points with scores from Mark Loughnane, Alan Dolan, Paul Claffey and Eanna Garvey, however just before half time Kilnadeema went through what was to be their best period of the game and went in at the break 2 points up...11pts to 9pts.
After the break Cappy playing into the town goal opened the scoring with an inspirational point from Ronan Garvey following a long ball in from Paul Claffey, this was the beginning of Cappy’s ascent. They stepped up their game and applied some serious pressure to the Leitrim side. Hunting in packs they upped their work keeping Leitrim’s scoring to just one point from play. As the ball flowed into the Cappy forwards some fine scores were taken from Alan Dolan, Ronan Garvey, James Garvey and younger brother Eanna Garvey before a move involving the 3 Garvey brothers ended up with the ball in the back of the net.
The Cappy crowd cheered as Alan Dolan won the following puck out and put it straight back over the Kilnadeema crossbar.
Cappy pulled away to win on a score line of 1-19 to 0-13 in the end.
Final Score: Cappataggle 1-19 Leitrim/Kilnadeema 0-13
